Gerry Tully

Gerry Tully sings from his heart, a soulful and emotive performer.  With his own delectable compositions and interpretations, he draws from a store of beautiful songs, both original and collected.  Seeing a live performance will leave you in no doubt of his rare ability.

He grew up in musical family in the echo of the show band era, impromptu performances and sessions were common at home. From here Gerry discovered a passion for the acoustic guitar and a style of playing that gave his songs the room they deserve. Being self-taught, he has unique rhythm and finger styles, a relaxed power, courageous drive, and style.

In 2002 Gerry released a 6 track EP “Grist for the Mill” that featured on RTE radio.  Jackie Hayden said in Hotpress magazine, “reminiscent of Tom Paxton.”

Gerry continued experimenting with styles from all quarters of the musical landscape including metal, swing, folk, and trad.  He toured in Europe and America and appeared on national television.  He has played support to The Magic Numbers, Mary Coughlan, Dervish, The Fureys, The Hothouse Flowers, Mundy, and The Dubliners.  He featured on the Working Class Heroes Tour with Don Baker, Ronnie Drew, and Finbar Furey.

In 2008 his debut album "Leaves Float Down” was launched in the Solstice Arts Theatre, Navan, Co. Meath.  A collection of 13 self-penned songs that bring a brand new eclectic sound and style to the market.  Track 2 on the album “True Love” was referred to by Hotpress magazine as the closest thing to Christy Moore or Damian Dempsey bar none.  Track 4 "News for You" features an appearance for world renowned Harmonica player Don Baker.

Gerry is a strong solo performer playing gigs everywhere from his home County Meath, to Florida USA. Recently he teamed up with fellow performer Emmett Vaughan.  Together they formed the group “Blue Cedar Project” performing bluegrass, roots, and blues music focusing on the dark-side of bluegrass.

                                                                         Reviews:

Jackie Hayden – Hotpress Magazine “Gerry has a robust voice ideal for mainstream, pop, or folk tunes, and he oozes confidence as a performer echoing back to early Dillon and Tom Paxton”.

Geoff Wallis – Irishmusicreview.com “Gerry is a strong lyrical writer. He certainly has a great way with words.

Musicreview.com ARTIST OF THE MONTH JULY 2008 ‘In Your Eyes’ is the first track on the album I got the impression it could be a stunning tune to hit the Irish airwaves capping the likes of Paddy Casey and Declan O’Rourke very catchy and superb lyrics. ‘Thank You For Calling’ has a nice balance a feel to the song it sounds a bit like Mundy ‘July’..But better.

Sean Laffey - Irish Music Magazine “Tully is a talent at work, and one to watch out for”.

Fergal Lynch - The Meath Chronicle “Comparisons to Moore, Hennessy or Luke Kelly embarrass the Trim man, but they still need to be made. Those legends of Irish Folk will never be bettered or even equaled, but very few will come as close as Tully when aiming to strike a chord with a traditional audience.”

Tara McWeeney - Live and Reeling “Tully’s songs add a different dimension making the album stand out”.

Jackie Hayden – Hotpress Magazine “He has a winning voice full of raw emotion and a great way with a well-crafted song.  ‘True Love’ is a performance that comes as close to the greatness of Christy Moore as I’ve heard since Damien Dempsey.  Its delicate harmonies lift the spirits.  ‘Give me Fire’ is boosted by strong vocals, with a hint of Paul Brady in the phrasing, and a fine chorus that eases into your skull.”

Fergal Lynch - The Meath Chronicle “What sets Tully aside is his poetic use of words, his description of life, love and all other matters of the heart. There is a warmth about every song that keeps the toe tapping and the soul rejoicing.”
